BIOGRAPHICAL BACKGROUND

Miguel Angel Poveda is a passionate and dedicated individual who is running as a congressional candidate in the 2024 upcoming elections for Florida District 22. He believes that he is uniquely qualified to represent his constituents efficiently and effectively.

Born on March 1st, 1958, in Cuba, he came into this world just 10 months before Fidel Castro's rise to power, a period that would significantly shape his worldview and his aspirations for the future. He is a capitalist who believes in American democracy and who recognizes the deficiencies in communist and socialist regimes.

The Poveda family made the difficult decision to emigrate to the United States, seeking a better life and the promise of freedom. On December 6th, 1965, they arrived in Miami, Florida. Then, 2 days later, the family was sent to their relatives in Edgewater, New Jersey. Growing up in a Cuban immigrant family, in a predominantly Irish and Italian community, Miguel experienced firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with building a new life in a foreign land.

Determined to excel academically, Miguel embraced his education with fervor. He attended and graduated from high school in Leonia, New Jersey, where he distinguished himself through his exceptional work ethic and dedication to his studies. His experiences as an immigrant and the struggles he witnessed within his community shaped his deep-rooted belief in the power of education as a catalyst for social change and upward mobility.

Many years later, Miguel continued his pursuit of knowledge and earned a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University with a major in Anthropology. His academic journey broadened his understanding of society and their complex political systems. This instilled in him a profound sense of responsibility to serve his community and champion the rights and interests of its diverse members.

Miguel enrolled in law school at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Broward County, Florida, in August 2007, which culminated in the completion of his Juris Doctor (JD) degree in January 2011. Miguel's perseverance paid off when he passed the bar exam on his first attempt in July 2011, a testament to his sharp intellect and unwavering work ethic

Following his admission to the Florida Bar in May 2012, Miguel embarked on his legal career. He quickly established himself as a principled and compassionate advocate, representing individuals and organizations in various legal matters. Through his work, Miguel witnessed firsthand the challenges and systemic issues that impacted his community. It was during this time that he realized the importance of having strong and effective leadership at the legislative level to address these concerns and create meaningful change.

Motivated by his personal experiences and driven by a desire to make a positive impact, Miguel recently decided to enter the political arena. He firmly believes that every citizen should have equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background, and that effective leadership is the key to fostering positive change.

As a congressional candidate, Miguel aims to address the pressing issues that impact his constituents, such as immigration reform, social injustice and economic prosperity. Through his platform, he seeks to create an inclusive society that celebrates diversity and provides opportunities for all individuals to thrive with a major emphasis on national unity. He has been quoted as saying, “While America squabbles, China gobbles.” Also, he stated, “We cannot survive as a nation as long as we are divided.” He takes The Pledge of Allegiance seriously as it is especially focused on “One Nation” which is “Indivisible!”

Miguel’s unique life experiences, coupled with his unwavering determination, make him a strong advocate for the people he hopes to represent in Congress. He believes that by working collaboratively with fellow lawmakers and engaging with the community, he can make a lasting difference in the lives of those he serves.
